Yeovil Pride becomes charity in time for 2020 parade

Organisation demonstrates its ongoing commitment to Yeovil and its LGBT+ community

Yeovil Pride is excited to announce that it has been registered as a charity by the Charity Commission for England and Wales, further demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to Yeovil and its LGBT+ community.

The application was approved in late February and allows Yeovil Pride to progress with the next step in its journey to further support LGBT+ people in and around the south Somerset town.

Yeovil Pride has also started a recruitment drive for three vacancies on it’s newly formed board in order to help put on the 2020 event and is asking for people from all backgrounds – including those who identify as LGBT+ and allies of the community – to consider applying.

The voluntary roles include the Director of Fundraising, the Director of Marketing & Communications and the Director of Digital, and will be essential in ensuring the continued success of Yeovil Pride.

JK Doran, Chair of Yeovil Pride, said, “I’m delighted that the Charity Commission for England and Wales has approved our application to become a charity. We wanted to show our continued dedication to putting on a pride in Yeovil for the LGBT+ community here in the heart of the West Country.

“With the success of last year’s event, we’re excited that Yeovil Pride will be bigger and better event, culminating with our celebration on Saturday 8 August 2020. But as Yeovil Pride grows, we need people to join the team and help bring their expertise to make sure that we can have a great pride later this year, and continue to fight for full LGBT+ equality.”

The final details of this year’s event are still to be confirmed, but will include a march and entertainment in the town centre. Yeovil Pride is also working on an outreach programme which will include working with young people as well as a t-shirt design competition to drive further engagement.
